iPhone 16 Pro Max lab test reveals its actual charging speed

Some are criticizing the new iPhone 16 lineup due to lack of innovation, and as revealed by Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has also received lower pre-orders than expected. The analyst noted that the sub-par pre-order volume is mainly due to the new phones not introducing significant upgrades over the predecessor.

Speaking of not seeing a significant upgrade, the charging speed of the iPhone 16 lineup may just be the same as the predecessors. A recently surfaced CQC certification hinted that all the phones within the new iPhone 16 series could max out at 45W, but it seems that's not what the latest smartphones will charge at all times.

Chinese media outlet iFanr claims to have tested the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The outlet says that the smartphone can peak at around 39W. But that's just the instantaneous peak power. If you put that out of consideration, the phone can max out at 27W. This is the same charging speed as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which suggests that there isn't any upgrade in the charging speed.

iFanr notes that certification specifications often don't reveal the actual performance. Referencing the data shared by CQC, the outlet says that the certification indicated the maximum input current and voltage. This test done by CQC ensures that the phone is compatible with different fast chargers that are available in the market (Anker Nano 65W curr. $29.99 on Amazon).

The Chinese outlet also believes that the charging hardware of the iPhone 16 Pro Max isn't any different from the 15 Pro Max. Moreover, with this test, iFanr concluded that it takes 1 hour and 45 minutes to get the new phone from 2% to 100%. To compare, the predecessor takes around 1 hour and 55 minutes to fully charge.
