Explore the diverse biomes branching from the Core in Core Keeper, and you'll encounter ancient ruins, some accessible, others locked. Many hold basic tech or treasures, but some offer far greater rewards.
A chest lies hidden behind a locked door in a ruin on a solitary island in the Sunken Sea. To access it, you'll need the Admin Key, crafted using old technology.
Locating the Forlorn Metropolis and its Treasures
The Admin Key unlocks the Sunken Shrine. It requires three unique materials and the Empty Crystal recipe:
- Shutdown Protocol
- Anomaly Report
- Overwrite Transport
Access the Sunken Sea after defeating Glurch, Ghorm, and Malugaz, placing their trophies in the Core totems.
These materials are found only within Forlorn Metropolis sub-biomes in the Sunken Sea, typically in open water.
Prepare for this challenging sub-biome. Reinforced Octarine Armor, powerful weapons, bridges (or a boat!), ample food and potions are essential. Enemies use long-range magic attacks.
A boat significantly speeds traversal. Craft one at a Boat Workbench (80 Planks, 50 Scarlet Bars, 20 Mechanical Gears). The Galaxite Chakram (if you've reached the Desert of Beginnings) is highly effective due to its ricochet.
Navigate the Sunken Sea, searching the widest central areas for large structures. Forlorn Metropolises appear as square, interconnected room sections, with light and dark blue-green blocks on the map.
Begin by exploring the Sunken Sea's borders to establish a search area. Each Metropolis has two to four entrances, sometimes guarded by enemies.
Inside, combat Caveling Scholars and Core Sentries, both wielding magic attacks.
Finding the Broken Cores
You'll find unique furniture (like Crystal Lamps) and Ancient Chests containing Sunken Sea loot (including Octarine Ore). Crucially, locate Broken Core Rooms.
The Admin Key components are obtained by interacting with Broken Cores in these larger-than-average Forlorn Metropolis sub-biomes:
- Shutdown Protocol (approx. 550 tiles from the Core)
- Anomaly Report (approx. 650 tiles from the Core)
- Overwrite Transport (approx. 750 tiles from the Core)
Finding one helps pinpoint the others. These rooms are usually central, visually distinct on the map (two to three intersecting lines with a gray square, lacking the blue/green centers of other scenes).
Interact with the Broken Core to access a mini-inventory containing one crafting material. Each Broken Core Room's Ancient Chest contains a material for the Phantom Spark bow.
Crafting the Admin Key
With the three components, purchase the Empty Crystal recipe from the Cloaked Merchant (3,000 Ancient Coins) after activating the Core.
Place the Empty Crystal in your hotbar and have the three materials in your inventory. Using the Empty Crystal combines them into the Admin Key.
Accessing the Glyph Parchment Shrine
The Glyph Parchment Shrine (500 tiles from the Core) is a small island in the Sunken Sea, featuring a Titan Chest and a diamond-shaped door.
Its proximity to the Forlorn Metropolis containing the Shutdown Protocol is likely.
Interact with the door and insert the Admin Key to open it. Inside, you'll find loot including 25 Gold Bars, 15 Ancient Gemstones, and the Glyph Parchment recipe (for the Phantom Spark bow).
