Today's NYT Mini Crossword Clues And Answers For Monday, April 14th
Apr 14, 2025 am 11:18 AMWell it’s Monday all over again, and we’re all back to work, though I generally find my Friday-Sunday is a lot busier than the rest of the work week. For everyone out there working nine-to-five, M-F, however, it’s a return to the old chopping block. We also have a Mini Crossword to solve.
The NYT Mini is a smaller, quicker, more digestible, bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its larger sibling, it’s free-to-play without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or the app, though you’ll need the app to tackle the archive.
Spoilers ahead!
ACROSS
1- Uneaten part of toast, often — CRUST
6- Like stud muffins — HUNKY
7- Prepare for use, as a marker — UNCAP
8- Nick of “48 Hours” — NOLTE
9- Strike zone’s lower boundary — KNEES
DOWN
1- Alternative to a chip, in the baking aisle — CHUNK
2- Kind of sentence that keeps going and going, it should have been made into two sentences — RUNON (hahaha)
3- Cousin’s dad — UNCLE
4- Spin out on the ice, say — SKATE
5- Uses a keyboard — TYPES
Today’s trickier words were tricky on purpose. Prepare for use, as a marker didn’t sound, at first, like a marker you draw with. Likewise, “spin out on the ice” makes me think of a car spinning out on the ice, not doing spins on the ice like you would on skates. 1-Across was straightforward enough, unless you glazed over the baking aisle bit, like I did, in which case you were thinking about chips, like the tortilla chips I just ate as a snack, not chocolate chips. This one took me a bit—1:41 to be exact—just because I kept stumbling on these trickier ones, and other little gaps in my knowledge, like 48 Hours, which I had no idea had Nick N0lte in it. Hunky crust!
How did you do? Let me know on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.
If you also play Wordle, I write guides about that as well. You can find those and all my TV guides, reviews and much more here on my blog. Thanks for reading!
