This Easter weekend box office is shaping up to be a battle between two titans: Warner Bros.' A Minecraft Movie and their newly released vampire thriller, Sinners.

Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, debuted Friday across 3,308 North American theaters, generating $4.7 million in Thursday previews. While Friday projections place Sinners at $18 million—$1.5 million ahead of A Minecraft Movie's projected Friday earnings—Deadline predicts Minecraft will again dominate the Easter weekend.

A Minecraft Movie, which launched April 4th to a phenomenal $163 million opening and added $78.5 million last weekend, is projected by Deadline to earn $44 million this weekend from 4,032 theaters. Sinners, meanwhile, is projected for a strong second-place finish with $40 million.

These numbers largely align with pre-release forecasts, which pegged A Minecraft Movie between $40 and $45 million. However, Deadline estimates a slightly higher $47 million for Minecraft, while Variety projected Sinners to earn between $40 and $50 million.

Regardless of the final figures, Warner Bros. celebrates a box office victory with both films' success. A Minecraft Movie surpassed $300 million in domestic ticket sales Thursday, reaching $303.3 million domestically and a remarkable $576.6 million globally.

The King of Kings' Potential Upset

While A Minecraft Movie and Sinners are expected to claim the top two spots, Angel Studios' The King of Kings could be the weekend's true underdog story. Deadline projects a $17 million weekend gross, only $2 million shy of its record-breaking opening. This would push its domestic total to $45 million.

Rounding out the top five are 20th Century Studio's The Amateur and A24's Warfare, projected to earn $8 million and $4 million, respectively.
