Marvel Brings Back Its 'Swimsuit Special' Just For 'Marvel Rivals'
Marvel Rivals heats up this summer with a sizzling new batch of skins! Inspired by the return of the Marvel Swimsuit Special comic after a 30-year hiatus, the game will feature a collection of summer-themed costumes. This collaboration, seemingly Marvel's most successful cross-media venture outside the MCU, leans into the game's established aesthetic.
The announcement teases a playful, almost Playboy-esque approach: Roxxon Comics creates an unauthorized swimsuit special, prompting Marvel heroes to stage their own global fashion shoot. The comic, MARVEL SWIMSUIT SPECIAL: FRIENDS, FOES & RIVALS #1, promises numerous splash pages of stunning artwork, with a story to… well, let's just say it's there.
The comic showcases over 15 heroes, including several not yet in the game (She-Hulk, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Rogue, Captain Marvel, Wasp, and Mary Jane). Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Captain Marvel's inclusion hints at their upcoming arrival in Marvel Rivals, given the game's monthly character releases. Expect a mix of swim trunks and speedos for the male characters, and bikinis or one-pieces for the female characters.
While the comic offers a preview, not all costumes will make it into the game. Black Widow and Psylocke's outfits seem likely candidates. The inclusion of Tony Stark, T'Challa, and Steve Rogers in swim attire remains to be seen.
Currently confirmed summer skins include Squirrel Girl, Jeff, Rocket, and The Thing (yes, in a speedo). These may only be the first wave of a larger summer skin release. Stay tuned for more updates!
