Google is currently experimenting with a revamped display and user interface for forum content showcased within its search outcomes. "We're running tests on a fresh presentation format for forum content appearing in search results, enabling users to swiftly peruse top comments and relevant discussions to aid them in locating valuable information and delving further," a Google representative informed us.
What exactly is this new display? The new design will emphasize the "top comments" within a particular discussion forum thread while simultaneously spotlighting related discussions concerning that subject.
Google mentioned that searchers frequently seek insights based on others' experiences with a topic, which is why they are exploring novel methods to highlight those experiences in Google Search. This initiative complements the "Discussions and Forums" feature and the Forums filter, formerly known as perspectives.
For many years—actually a decade—Google has presented "top answers," but this updated UI offers more to the end-user. Google also noted that in certain instances, they have agreements with forums to showcase these extra details. I presume this refers to the Reddit partnership. However, Google added that it sources content from hundreds of forums and online communities worldwide.
What does it look like? Below is a mockup of the interface sent by a Google representative, illustrating the "top comments" section and the "related content" section—you can click to enlarge the image:
No effect on rankings. Google stated that this search feature has no bearing on rankings. Once again, it does not influence how forum pages rank in Google Search for any given query. This is merely a novel approach for individuals to engage with this content, and it only appears in searches where forum content would have otherwise been visible.
Why should we take notice? Similar to Google's already extensive display of forum content, such as Reddit, Google is now piloting the inclusion of these elements with enhanced features. Google plans to exhibit the top comments and related discussions for these forum results.
We've observed Google testing variations of this concept previously; however, this iteration appears distinct.
It remains uncertain when or if this will be fully implemented, yet Google is currently assessing its performance through testing.
The above is the detailed content of Google Search testing new display for forum content. For more information, please follow other related articles on the PHP Chinese website!
