Technically, spring still has a few days to go, but when it comes to the weather, summer is already here. The solstice arrives this Friday, yet the sun is already intense and temperatures are nearing 90 degrees even in the mountains, so I’m already hoping monsoon season arrives earlier than usual. Still, the evenings are quite pleasant! With the heat outside, I’ll be staying indoors with the AC on and solving a puzzle or two. Let’s dive into today’s Mini Crossword!
The NYT Mini offers a more compact, quicker, and easily manageable alternative to the full NYT Crossword. Unlike the main puzzle, the Mini can be played for free without needing a subscription to The New York Times. You can access it via web browser or through the app, although the app is required if you want to play past editions.
Spoilers ahead! Here’s the first letter of each word.
Across

8A. Something to R.S.V.P. for — starts with the first letter E

5D. Email status — starts with the first letter S
Spoilers ahead! Here are all the answers.
Across
1A. Slow ___ (primate with big eyes) — LORIS
6A. Title character who says "I've often seen a cat without a grin ... but a grin without a cat!" — ALICE
7A. National mammal of the United States — BISON
8A. Something to R.S.V.P. for — EVENT
9A. Word commonly mixed up with "fewer" — LESS
Down
1D. Where care instructions are often found on a garment — LABEL
2D. Main ingredient in tapenade — OLIVE
3D. Gets up — RISE
4D. Array on a touchscreen — ICONS
5D. Email status — SENT
Here are all the words on the grid:
This one was a little challenging. I know primates well but initially forgot about the slow LORIS and mistakenly filled in LEMUR, which actually worked with 1-Down but clearly didn’t fit with 2-Down, which was clearly OLIVE. Eventually, I managed to piece them all together after a minute and eighteen seconds.
