Wordle Analysis
I always consult Wordle Bot to improve my guessing strategy. You can analyze your own Wordles using Wordle Bot directly here.
STALE was a solid first guess, leaving me with one correct letter in place and only 60 words remaining. Of course, I didn’t know how close that first guess really was, and things took a turn from there. CHOIR reduced the list to 17 but added just one yellow box. Trying to uncover another vowel, I went with GUARD, which didn’t give me any new letters and left five possible solutions. I guessed PRAWN since both PRANK and BRAWN were on my mind, but apparently PRANK was the correct answer. Live and learn.
Competitive Wordle Score
I lose one point for solving in five guesses and another point for losing to the Bot. Meanwhile, the Bot scores zero for solving in four and gains one point for beating me. That makes our June totals:
Erik: 11 points
Wordle Bot: 8 points
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 earns 3 points; guessing in 2 earns 2 points; guessing in 3 earns 1 point; guessing in 4 earns 0 points; guessing in 5 earns -1 points; guessing in 6 earns -2 points and failing to solve it earns -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent, you gain 1 point. A tie gives you 0 points. Losing deducts 1 point. Total up your score each day. Keep a running total or start fresh every day.
- Fridays offer double points (2XP), so your gains or losses are doubled.
- Whether you keep a weekly tally or just enjoy the daily challenge, have fun!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word prank likely comes from Middle English pranken, meaning "to show off" or "to dress up." It could also trace back to Low German origins, related to prunken (“to strut, show off”). By the 16th–17th century, the term had evolved into its modern sense of “a mischievous trick,” derived from the idea of playful or flamboyant behavior.
