In an interview with Korean outlet ThisisGame, SHIFTUP CEO Kim Hyung-tae addressed criticisms of Stellar Blade's narrative, which some found “somewhat disappointing,” and explained how the team plans to improve the story in the sequel.

According to Kim, the gameplay was completed relatively early, but narrative elements such as cutscenes lagged behind. The original plan included more detailed world-building—like explanations for characters’ outfit changes and expanded side stories—but these were cut back in order to finish the game on time.

While the team considered adding some of those removed scenes post-launch, they ultimately decided against it, fearing it might disrupt the existing narrative flow. However, he emphasized that richer storytelling will be a priority in the sequel: “I think we will be able to present it with a sufficiently rich narrative.”

As for the idea of a Stellar Blade sequel arriving by 2027:

“To be honest, we've been fully committed to releasing the PC version following the PS version, so now is the time to do proper R&D. It would be great if it came out in 2027, but there are only three years left, so I can only say that we'll do our best. However, I can guarantee that we'll present a great work.”

When asked about potential crossovers or shared universes between Stellar Blade, Nikke, and the upcoming Project Spirit, Kim stated that while one-off collaborations like the recent Nikke crossover are possible, there are currently no plans to merge their worlds, in order to preserve each IP's independence.

Considering that SHIFTUP has been focused heavily on the PC version up to now, and development on Stellar Blade 2 is just getting started, a 2027 launch seems unlikely. AAA development cycles typically take longer, especially if the sequel aims to be bigger than the first. Whenever it does arrive, it will likely debut on the next generation of consoles—not just PlayStation as before. A multi-platform release across Steam, Xbox, and potentially a future PlayStation system is expected.
