ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1461 Hints, Clues And Answer For Thursday, June 19thBy Erik KainIt’s a major day today for multiple reasons. First off, it's 2XP Friday, so Competitive Wordle players earn double points—whether good or bad. Second, it marks both the final day of spring and the beginning of summer. The Summer Solstice occurs today. And finally, it’s my 44th birthday. I am now a Palindrome for the first time in 11 years. Alright, let’s crack this Wordle!
How To Solve Today’s Wordle
The Hint: A shade.
The Clue: This Wordle features more vowels than consonants.
Okay, spoilers ahead! The solution is below!

The Solution:
Wordle Breakdown
Each day I consult Wordle Bot to improve my guessing strategy. You can analyze your own Wordles with Wordle Bot by visiting right here.
I started with SPINE because I recently visited a spine specialist and was diagnosed with something called Scheuermann's Disease—which sounds worse than it actually is. Still, SPINE turned out to be an excellent first guess. With 31 words remaining, I opted to test all new letters on my second attempt. ABORT narrowed the list down to two possibilities: PLATE or TAUPE. I almost chose PLATE but decided to go with the less obvious one. I’m happy I did. TAUPE was the correct answer! Celebration!
Competitive Wordle Performance
Similar to yesterday, the Bot and I each earn 1 point for solving in three attempts and 0 points for tying. This brings our June scores to:
Erik: 13 points
Wordle Bot: 10 points
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 earns 3 points; guessing in 2 earns 2 points; guessing in 3 earns 1 point; guessing in 4 gives 0 points; guessing in 5 deducts 1 point; guessing in 6 deducts 2 points; missing entirely deducts 3 points.
- If you beat your opponent, you gain 1 point. If you tie, no points are awarded or lost. Losing costs you 1 point. Add these up to determine your total score. You can keep a daily tally or reset every day.
- Fridays offer 2XP, which means all points earned or lost are doubled.
- Whether you track long-term or play fresh daily, enjoy the game!
Origin Of Today’s Wordle
The word "taupe" comes from the French term taupe, meaning “mole” (the small burrowing animal). It originally described the gray-brown color of a mole's fur. The French word traces back to the Latin talpa, also meaning “mole.” The term was adopted into English in the late 1800s as a color name.
