The full lineup of series was revealed some time ago, but it's still great to see more gameplay footage, especially from the "nemesis" perspective (shown below).
That said, the main focus of this trailer highlights the game’s new features, including ability upgrades, shops, and other familiar elements from the series.
Interestingly, we finally get an auto-save system and, more curiously, an “auto mode.”
This mode essentially allows the game to play itself, which is…strange.
After all, the appeal of these games lies in their turn-based tactical RPG nature. You’re presented with a grid full of enemies, and your determined heroes must eliminate them.
With this new auto mode, all strategic planning and tactical decision-making is removed — which is essentially the heart of the game.
I understand the push for quality-of-life improvements in long-running series like this, but this feels like going too far. Fortunately, it’s an optional mode, which is reassuring.
Beyond that, the trailer outlines the various bonuses and DLC packs available for pre-ordering the game. The Japanese trailer also mentions the Robot Damashii toy collaboration, which isn’t included in the English version.
Honestly, I’m still amazed that a mainline Super Robot Wars title is getting a proper global release. In the meantime, feel free to read my reviews of Super Robot Wars V, X, T, and 30.
Super Robot Wars Y will launch on August 28 for PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC via Steam.
