June has flown by and July is in the headlights, but Wordle cares not for months, for weeks, for days. Set aside your busy lives for a moment, and let’s solve this puzzle!

Wordle Analysis
Each day I use Wordle Bot to evaluate my guessing performance. You can analyze your Wordles with Wordle Bot using this link.
CLAIM was a reasonable starting guess, leaving me with 109 possible answers and one yellow ‘M’. I shifted focus with SMORE (my older teens went camping and made “savory s’mores” which helped me think of this next attempt), reducing the remaining options down to just one: STUMPfor
Competitive Wordle Score
I suppose the Wordle Bot was a bit stumped today. It took four attempts, meaning I won. I earn 1 point for solving in three guesses, another 1 point for beating the Bot, while the Bot scores 0 for taking four tries and -1 for losing. Our June totals are gradually diverging:
Erik: 20 points
Wordle Bot: 10 points
For the Bot to catch up, it would need to win nearly every remaining Wordle in June while I lose points each time as well. I feel confident, dear Wordlers.
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Solving in 1 earns 3 points; solving in 2 earns 2 points; solving in 3 earns 1 point; solving in 4 earns 0 points; solving in 5 earns -1 points; solving in 6 earns -2 points and failing to solve costs -3 points.
- Beating your opponent gives you 1 point. Tying gives 0 points. Losing deducts 1 point. Add everything up for your total score. Track daily or play fresh each day.
- Fridays offer 2XP, so all your points—positive or negative—are doubled.
- You can keep a running score or treat each day separately. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word "stump" comes from Middle English stumpe, likely derived from Germanic roots. It shares connections with Middle Low German stump and Old Norse stumpi, referring to a blunt or shortened piece. Initially, it described something cut off or broken, like the base of a tree after being felled. The verb form (to stump someone) emerged later, possibly stemming from the idea of being halted abruptly or obstructed.
