It’s already the second half of the year, which means Samsung is delivering its usual summer hardware lineup. Alongside new foldables, we also get a pair of smartwatches today. The Galaxy Watch 8 series has officially arrived, and it looks impressive.
Samsung has just introduced its newest smartwatches: the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. This time around, there are actual noticeable hardware changes instead of just reusing last year’s design. According to Samsung, they have redesigned the internal components, resulting in a 11% thinner build compared to earlier models.
The entire Galaxy Watch 8 line adopts the "cushion design" first seen on the Galaxy Watch Ultra. The display brightness has been increased by up to 50%, reaching a peak of 3,000 nits, making it easier to view outdoors. These watches are powered by a new 3nm chip called the Exynos W1000, which Samsung claims delivers improved performance and greater energy efficiency.
No Samsung smartwatch launch would be complete without new health and fitness tools. One notable addition is the Antioxidant Index, which measures your carotenoid levels in just five seconds. During sleep, the device will track vascular stress using the Vascular Load feature. For runners, the Running Coach function assesses your fitness level on a scale from 1 to 10 and creates a personalized training plan with real-time guidance. Additional wellness features include Bedtime Guidance, which recommends an ideal bedtime based on circadian rhythm and sleep latency; a High Stress Alert that tells you when it’s time to relax; and a Mindfulness Tracker to log emotions and guide breathing exercises. An AI-powered Energy Score combines physical and mental data to give you a daily snapshot of your overall energy level.
The Galaxy Watch 8 series ships with Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch pre-installed. It’s also among the first smartwatches to come with Gemini built-in, allowing users to issue natural-sounding voice commands to control apps like Samsung Health, Calendar, and Clock. One UI 8 Watch brings enhancements such as Multi-Info Tiles for faster access to key metrics and a "Now Bar" that keeps important activities visible at all times.
