Ratatan's Early Access release has been postponed after receiving a large amount of feedback from players who tried the demo. Read more to find out what fans are saying about this upcoming rhythm game and what supporters who backed it on Kickstarter can expect.
Ratatan Early Access Release Delayed
Demo Feedback Causes Launch Postponement
In a Steam blog post published on July 4, Ratatan announced that its planned Early Access release will be delayed due to player feedback gathered from the demo. Originally scheduled for July 25, the launch date is now uncertain as the team works through the responses they received.
The development team at Rata Arts shared that the demo was downloaded 200,000 times and garnered over 1,200 reviews on Steam, along with 2,000 individual pieces of feedback. They admitted they need more time to address these comments, hence the delay.
Among the concerns raised were issues such as an unfulfilling roguelike structure and pacing of rewards, certain Ratatans not utilizing their abilities, visual impact being underwhelming, and suggestions for better content organization, pacing, and mid-gameplay flow.
Although Ratatan is considered a spiritual successor to the popular rhythm title Patapon—and created by the same developer, Hiroyuki Kotani—Rata Arts clarified that it’s not intended to be the same experience. "It's important to note that Ratatan isn't Patapon; it's an indie project designed to offer a fresh experience, so there are bound to be differences in design," they explained.
Here at Game8, we found Ratatan's resemblance to Patapon both nostalgic and refreshingly unique. With Kotani leading the way and strong support from longtime fans, Ratatan carries an energy that feels like it's reviving the charm of Patapon while reshaping it into something new. Ratatan Review [Demo] | Not Patapon 4, But It Might As Well Be ### Making Sure Kickstarter Supporters Are Rewarded
For those who supported Ratatan through Kickstarter, the developers have assured them that additional rewards will be provided despite the delay in the Early Access launch. Rata Arts mentioned, "As we continue developing the Early Access version, we're focused on making sure our Kickstarter backers receive proper recognition."
Plans include granting access to the Early Access build, offering extra incentives for backers who opted for console versions, and providing further support across the board. More information will be revealed in future updates, and the team has expressed their sincere apologies for the longer-than-expected wait.
Ratatan is currently set for a PC (Steam) release, with plans to also launch on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles. For all the latest news about the game, check out our coverage below!
