Mods Enhance the Gameplay Experience

Now that Stellar Blade is available on Steam, it seems like mod support will continue—including adult-themed ones. Hyung-tae Kim, Director of Stellar Blade and CEO of ShiftUp, believes that modding enriches the overall gameplay experience. In an interview with South Korean gaming news site This Is Game on June 14, Kim expressed a positive outlook on modding as long as it's not misused. He noted, “However, some cases are close to cheating or may interfere with the game’s normal operation, so please be cautious.”

Technical Director Dong-gi Lee also warned players that certain mods might cause instability in the game. He stated, “Mods have not been reviewed or tested by us. It’s fine for users to enjoy the game with mods, but if you encounter any issues, we recommend reverting to the original version for testing.”

Kim also addressed concerns regarding adult mods, stating that he doesn’t want to limit player creativity. Since Stellar Blade isn't rated for teens, there’s no need to ban such content. Kim emphasized his belief that players should be free to explore their own creative interpretations of the game.

“It’s the user’s right, and once they’ve purchased the game, how they choose to play it is up to them. I don’t intend to place restrictions on that. However, since all of you are mature individuals, I believe you’ll use common sense and avoid antisocial or sensitive areas,” he added.

Regarding inappropriate usage of game characters, Kim explained that it falls under the player’s responsibility, as the company has already sold the product. He supports the idea of gamers "owning" games rather than just "renting" them—a trend he sees becoming more common in the industry.

He added, “Of course, if things escalate into public harm, we would need to act, but such situations haven’t occurred yet. I think this is something that can be handled through self-regulation within communities rather than being strictly good or bad. I trust in its overall effectiveness.”

According to Kim, whatever players do after purchasing the game is beyond the company’s control, so he does not plan to enforce penalties in that regard.

Planned DLC Evolves Into Sequel

During ShiftUp’s investor report presentation on May 16, the company revealed plans to release a sequel to Stellar Blade before 2027. Kim confirmed that a sequel is in development, though the team is currently focused on the PC release.

Originally, the sequel was intended to be DLC for the current game, but grew too large in scope to remain as one. “Ideally, we’d like it out by 2027, but with only three years left, I can only say we’ll do our best. What I can promise is that it will be great,” Kim said.

He admitted that the first game’s story suffered due to a stronger focus on action and gameplay mechanics. He also pointed out that Korea still lacks experience in narrative-driven titles. While he’s hesitant to add too much new content now, he assured fans that the sequel will feature a much-improved storyline.

Despite these concerns, Stellar Blade continues to gain popularity, with over 192,078 concurrent players on Steam and consistently “Very Positive” reviews.
