Step 1: Open Excel
Step 2: Make sure you’re logged into the Microsoft account that’s associated with your Copilot Pro license by checking the name and profile picture in the top right corner. Note: If the details don’t look right here, simply click the name/picture and use the option Sign in with a different account.
Step 3: Under the Home tab, look for the Copilot symbol in the top right, under the account name and picture.
Step 4: Click the Copilot symbol to open the Chat panel where you can enter prompts.
How to Use MS Copilot in Excel for Various Tasks
Option 1: Get data insights: In the chat pane, ask Copilot to provide insights about the data in your Excel workbook.
Option 2: Split columns: If you have data that you want to split further, for example, full names into first and last names, Copilot can do this. Type “Split the name column into first and last name.” Copilot will perform the action and let you know which columns it utilized for the new data.
Option 3: Add email addresses: If you have a set email formula, such as firstname.lastname@companyname.com, you can ask Copilot to create a list of email addresses from just names. Enter the request in plain English including the structure of the email address. Copilot will create the right formula and insert it into the workbook. You can review the changes before accepting them to ensure accuracy.
Option 4: Ask for help with counting rows or columns: If you want to ascertain how many rows or columns there are of a particular value, simply ask Copilot. Copilot will produce a SUMPRODUCT formula that matches your criteria.
Option 5: Highlight empty cells: Ask Copilot to show any cells with missing values. Copilot should tell you which cells are empty and may even suggest reviewing any formulae that have failed to produce a value.
