Trend changes in PC chassis design: Say goodbye to transparent tempered glass and embrace the built-in display! PC chassis design has been relatively stagnant for years, but the built-in display is expected to be the next evolutionary direction for custom PC settings, which is exciting.
Display: The inevitable trend of PC chassis evolution
The PC chassis has undergone many iterations. Originally it was a large metal box, and then a plexiglass window was added to the sides. Then, tempered glass side panels appeared, and finally the glass was spread all over the chassis.
Now, manufacturers have begun to install displays in every corner of the chassis. MSI, for example, replaced the front panel with a display in its latest chassis. An example is the HYTE Y70 Touch Infinite, which integrates a touch screen in the corner. The iBuyPower's Snowblind S case is equipped with a full perspective display on the side. This is just the beginning.
When manufacturers start installing displays on their water-cooled radiators, it really started to become a mainstream trend to build the screen into a PC case. This trend continues and I think the next iteration is to install the screen on the PC chassis.
The PC chassis display has both functionality and aesthetics
I was a little hesitant when I first thought about installing a screen on a PC case. But the more I think about it, the more I realize its versatility that I can’t wait to have one.
When thinking about the screen on the PC chassis, the first thing that comes to mind is to monitor PC components, such as the water temperature of AiO cooling, processor temperature, memory usage, GPU usage, etc. However, this is just the beginning.
The Snowblind S chassis is great for monitoring PC parameters, but it can also be used for any type of animation. Similar to the LCD display GIF on the radiator, you can do the same on the side of the Snowblind S chassis. This means you can easily change the look and feel of the chassis every day or even hourly.
However, products like the HYTE Y70 or MSI's new desktops provide you with a complete display. These displays are not simple transparent panels, but full color (or even touch sensitive). This feature turns your chassis from a simple chassis to an auxiliary display.
You can use such a screen to show Twitch chat while live, or open a document while making a Zoom call. The possibilities of a full-color screen are indeed endless, especially one that provides touch input.
Products like the Snowblind S are good, but what I really want is what MSI and HYTE offer. I have a built-in auxiliary screen on my computer case, which feels very professional. It gives me extra screen space during meetings or playing games, but it also allows me to display custom graphics when shooting videos or taking photos of my desk and peripherals.
Don't just think of it as a screen
I usually think that the screen is the screen. I believe you think so too. But once the screen is installed on your PC, a whole new world opens: Customization. Yes, we can currently customize the appearance of computer wallpapers, but the screen on the PC is different.
Take HYTE Y70 as an example. Since the screen is located in the tilted part of the chassis, it has a scale and style that other ordinary displays do not have. So you can make it look like a fish swimming in your chassis. Or there is a monster poking his head out of the corner. Or many other things.
Built-in screen on the side of the chassis, the possibility of customization is endless. It's a way to change the look and feel of the entire PC, not just to see some extra information.
Installing the screen on your PC will really take personalization to the next level. Previously, we were limited to using colors and components to personalize the appearance. But with the screen, you can really make your settings look and feel exactly as you wish. Touch screen can add extra immersion
While the main cases of HYTE and MSI I mentioned here are equipped with touch screens, I don't think they are completely necessary. The touch experience certainly adds extra immersion, but it feels like it's just an additional feature, not the one I need. Let me explain.
After all, I don't plan to reach out to touch the display of the chassis often. There is a screen that shows me information (or plays cool GIFs). It's not for me to touch it often.
However, it may be useful to be able to reach out and scroll with your finger when I have Google Meet meetings with clients, or when I stream a game live. Or it might be annoying and I will end up using my mouse.
Adding touch functionality adds additional complexity and cost, and I think PC chassis manufacturers should cancel it, or use it as an option.
Let us stay rational
MSI replaced the entire front panel of its latest chassis launched at CES 2025 with a screen. HYTE Company replaced the corners of the tempered glass in Y70 with a screen. Neither of these displays can become transparent and will always block the objects behind them.
In MSI and HYTE selected positions, this is absolutely fine. However, chassis manufacturer, please don't replace my entire side panel with a screen that I can't see through. iBuyPower replaced the entire side panel of the Snowblind S case with the screen, but it was transparent and still allowed me to see my PC components. If my PC side panel becomes a chassis, at least let me turn it off or make it transparent so I can see my build.
If the panel must be placed on the side, an ideal location is the power shield. This is usually the unused space in most cases, and usually only the logo is displayed. Therefore, it makes sense to replace the sides with the screen here.
Please don't touch my side window so that I can still see my PC components, okay?
The screen on the chassis is not the only thing that could change your settings functionality. Dell recently released a monitor with built-in beamforming head tracking soundbars, and I really like the idea.

The activation method of Windows 11 depends on the system source and is divided into two types: automatic activation of digital licenses and manual input of product keys. 1. If you purchase a computer using a genuine channel or bind a digital license, connect to the network and log in to a Microsoft account, the system will automatically activate. You can check the status in "Settings → System → About → Activation"; 2. If you use a retail version or OEM key, you need to enter the activation page and manually enter the key, and the key must match the system version; 3. If the activation fails, you should check whether the key is reused, whether the network is normal, running the troubleshooting tool, or try to log in to the Microsoft account again, but it still cannot be resolved.
