How to find a WiFi password, whether you’re connected to the network or not

Finding WiFi Passwords for Currently Connected Networks:
Mac:
- Open System Settings, then click Wi-Fi.
- Scroll down and click Advanced.
- Locate your network, click the three dots, and select Copy Password.
iPhone (iOS 16 or later):
- Open Settings, tap your WiFi network.
- Tap the information icon ("i").
- Tap the password field; authenticate with your Apple ID and password or iPhone passcode.
Windows 10/11:
- Open Settings, then Network & Internet.
- Click Change Adapter Options (Win 10) or Advanced Network Settings, then More Network Adapter Options (Win 11).
- Double-click your network, select Wireless Properties, then the Security tab.
- Check Show Characters to reveal the password.
Android:
- Open Settings, then Internet.
- Tap the cog icon next to your network.
- Tap Share, authenticate, and the password will appear under the QR code.
Accessing Router Settings (Alternative Method):
If the above methods fail, access your router's settings using its IP address (found in your device's network settings). Log in with your router's admin credentials to find the WiFi password.
Finding WiFi Passwords for Previously Connected Networks:
Mac:
- Search for "Keychain Access".
- Find your network name.
- Click Show Password and authenticate.
Windows 10/11:
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Type
netsh wlan show profileto list networks. - Type
netsh wlan show profile [network name] key=clearto show the password for a specific network (replace "[network name]" with the actual name). Success is not guaranteed.
iPhone (iOS 16 or later):
- Open Settings, tap Wi-Fi, then Edit. Authenticate.
- Locate your network and tap the "i" icon.
- Tap Password.
Android: The process is the same as for currently connected networks; the password will only be shown if it was previously saved.
