Say goodbye to Google Maps and embrace Apple Maps! This article will guide you on how to migrate saved locations in Google Maps to Apple Maps, even if Apple Maps does not have official import capabilities. Although the process is a bit cumbersome, it is better than recreating all the marks.
Step 1: Export Google Maps data
First, visit takeout.google.com to export your Google Maps data. Click "Deselect All" at the top, then find the "Map (Your Place)" option and check it. Click OK to start the export process. Select "One-time export" and you will receive a download link or email notification later. The downloaded file is a ZIP compressed package. After decompression, you can find the Saved Places.json file.
Step 2: Use Apple Shortcuts to import data
Apple Maps does not have direct import function, but we can implement it with the help of Apple Shortcuts. Search for the "Tweaks to Apple Map Transfer" shortcut on Reddit, download and add it to your shortcut library.
Step 3: Manually import each location
Right-click on the downloaded Saved Places.json file, select "Share" > "Shortcuts", and select the shortcut you just added. The system will prompt you to enter the starting point and enter "1" to start.
The shortcuts will display the number and name of each location in turn. After closing the numbering window, the location name window will automatically pop up, and the location will open in Apple Maps after clicking. You need to manually save each location to your favorites or custom list in Apple Maps.
Processing import errors
Some locations may cause shortcut crashes. At this point, you can restart the shortcut and enter the item number you want to skip as the starting point to continue importing the remaining locations.
While this method requires manual operation, it allows you to organize and organize locations during the import process, creating custom lists such as "hiking", "restaurant" and more. I hope Apple can provide more convenient official import functions in the future.
