How to Remove 'System Requirements Not Met” Watermark in Windows 11 - Make Tech Easier
May 16, 2025 am 02:27 AMWindows 11 does have strict installation requirements. However, installing Windows 11 on unsupported devices is not difficult. If you have successfully installed it, don't rush to celebrate. You also need to clear the desktop "System Requirements Not Meeted" watermark that Microsoft introduced to prevent installation on unsupported hardware. This guide lists three ways to remove this watermark.
Table of contents
- Group Policy Editor
- Windows Registry Editor
- script
Group Policy Editor
This is the easiest method if you are using Windows Pro or Enterprise and you have Group Policy Editor enabled. Follow the instructions below to disable the watermark through the Group Policy Editor.
Enter "Group Policy" in Windows Search and click Edit Group Policy in the results. In the Group Policy Editor , go to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System .
Scroll down on the right panel and double-click to hide the message when the Windows system requirements are not met . Then, click Enable -> OK to apply the changes.
Windows Registry Editor
If you cannot access the Group Policy Editor, you can also remove the watermark by editing the Windows registry through the following steps.
Warning : Incorrect editing in the registry can corrupt the program and cause data loss. Be sure to back up the Windows registry before making edits.
Enter "Register" in Windows Search and click Registry Editor . In the Windows registry, move to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Control Panel . Right-click on the control panel and select New -> key .
Name this new key "UnsupportedHardwareNotificationCache".
Select this key, right-click in the blank space in the right panel, and select New- > DWORD (32-bit) value .
Name this entry "SV2", double-click it, and change its value to 0. If the UnsupportedHardwareNotificationCache entry already exists, just change the SV2 value.
Note : If your Windows 11 is still in the 21H2 version, you need to name the entry "SV1" and set the value to 0.
script
If you are not used to editing the registry, you can use third-party tools to do this for you. A small script will remove the "System Requirements Not Meeted" watermark. Although it is part of the Windows tuning tool, I linked the standalone script here.
Download and unzip the folder and you will find two scripts. Run both scripts and accept the prompt to make changes in the registry. Make sure that the system requirements do not meet the watermark first - Add , and then the system requirements do not meet the watermark - Remove , in this order.
The first script will add the required entries and the second script will set the value to 0 to remove the watermark.
For all the above methods, you need to restart your computer to see the changes take effect. It is worth mentioning that the watermark will not affect the functions of Windows. It's just an annoying tip to remind and encourage you to upgrade, similar to Windows activation watermarks.
