In a world of magic like in Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon, unusual happenings are not uncommon, even without the influence of Wyrdness and its inherent risks. One misstep can lead to curses, strange bodily changes, death—or in Pup's case—being trapped within enchanted stone.

Deep within the Crystal Cave lies poor Pup, a man from Dál Riata who has been unfortunate enough to be stuck in this place for days, encased in a wall of magical stones that murmur to him. No one else is expected to come down into the mine—you're the only hope he has of escaping his entrapment.

How To Rescue Pup From The Whispering Stones

The Pebble In The Pit is a somewhat obscure quest, which you can only begin by talking to Pup inside the Crystal Cave. The entrance to the mine is set into a cliff face located on the river southeast of Cuanacht city, near the point where it branches into three separate directions.

Make your way inside, and you'll discover a mine with multiple levels that you must descend through, as the lift near the entrance is non-functional. At the beginning, you’ll encounter several Corpse Eaters, and as you go further down, you'll run into Marrowghasts, both sighted and blind varieties.

As you approach the lower levels, you’ll start seeing Whispering Stone nodes embedded in the walls that can be mined. Be sure to gather all of these, since they are crucial to completing the quest, and doing so now will save you from having to return later.

At the lowest level, you’ll come across Pup, who is trapped within a large wall made of Whispering Stones. You can talk to him to officially trigger The Pebble In The Pit quest.

To finish this side mission, you must complete two objectives. First, you need to mine every available Whispering Stone node, and there are a total of 12 scattered across the bottom three floors of the mine. These resemble Wyrdstone Ore, but emit a white glow, making them easy to identify.

Then, head over to the stone wall next to where Pup is imprisoned, and you’ll receive an option to mine the rock, which appears lighter in color compared to surrounding stone. Mining it will reveal a small hidden alcove containing another rock wall that you must break through, leading into a long tunnel.

As you approach the chamber at the end, you’ll encounter three Frostbitten Warriors that you must defeat. They are slow-moving enemies, but capable of delivering heavy damage if they reach you. They also drop their weapons upon death.

Once the Frostbitten Warriors are eliminated and all Whispering Stones have been collected, the quest will update, allowing you to return to Pup’s location.

You'll find that Pup is gone, and you may now exit the mine using the lift located in one of the rooms beside the central chamber on the lowest floor, providing a faster escape route.

Upon exiting, you’ll enter a conversation with Pup outside the entrance, during which he will eventually direct you to speak with Kvorr.

Kvorr resides at a camp situated among some ruins, just beyond the bridge heading toward the southeastern gate of Forlorn Swords, and he wears a distinctive set of armor.

You may also discover several other side quests at Kvorr’s camp, such as The Crumble and Change Of Heart, should you have begun Beor’s storyline.

Speak to Kvorr about Pup to complete the quest, earning approximately 2000 EXP, and initiating the next side quest, Call Of The Wintermoon, while also granting access to the recipe for the Stonewarden Talisman.
