Whether you've secured a data-focused job promotion or recently picked up some new Microsoft Excel techniques, challenge yourself with the How-To Geek Intermediate Excel Test to evaluate your proficiency!

This is the second in a three-part series. The first covers beginner skills, and the third (advanced) will be released on Monday.

4 Intermediate Tasks --------------------

The following 14 tasks span these areas: adjusting the Excel window, utilizing visualization tools, managing Excel tables, applying intermediate-level functions, copying formatting, and creating and editing PivotTables. These instructions include both basic and intermediate-level tasks.

Open the downloaded workbook and proceed to complete the following:

1 Show the Quick Access Toolbar at the top of the Excel window. Help
2 Add "Focus Cell" to the Quick Access Toolbar and activate it. Help
3 Convert cells A1 through C21 into a blue Excel table featuring a header row, banded rows, and filters, and rename this table "Student\_Scores." Help
4 Implement a formula to allocate a random score ranging from 30 to 100 to each student within column B, and lock the result. Help
5 Using the lookup table, devise a formula that assigns a grade to each student in column C based on their test scores. Help
6 Add another student named "Izzy" to the formatted table in row 22, along with her score of 71, making sure her grade appears correctly.
7 Expand the formatted table to column D and insert the column heading "Status" into cell D1. Help
8 With the help of the lookup table, create a formula to show students' statuses in column D according to their grades in column C. Help
9 Copy the formatting of cells F2 to H10 onto cells F12 to H19. Help
10 In cells G13 to G19, use a formula to compute the average student score for each grade and format the results to one decimal place. Help
11 In cells H13 to H19, apply a formula to tally how many students have received each grade. Help
12 In cells G22 to G25, use a formula to count how many students fall into each status category. Help
13 Replicate the formatting of cells F12 to H19 onto cells F21 to G25, ensuring that values in cells G22 to G25 are shown as whole numbers. Help
14 Build a PivotTable on a separate worksheet listing students' names in column A and their scores in column B. Rename this worksheet "Pivot\_Test," and eliminate the Grand Totals row. Help
