How to Activate the Hidden Developer Options Menu on Your Pixel 4
Jun 17, 2025 am 11:11 AMIf you're planning to root your device, this is the first step. If you enjoy tinkering with your phone, it's essential. It's Android's secret "Developer options" menu, and unlocking it only takes about 30 seconds of your time.
Launch the Settings app on your Pixel 4 or 4 XL and scroll all the way down to the bottom. Select "About phone," then scroll down once more until you reach the bottom. Tap the "Build number" entry seven times in a row. You'll be asked to enter your lock screen PIN, and upon doing so, you'll see a toast notification stating "You are now a developer!"
To get to the Developer options menu, go back to the main Settings screen, scroll down near the bottom, and select "System." Then, tap "Advanced" to reveal additional settings, one of which will be labeled "Developer options."
Inside, you’ll discover a variety of helpful tools. One of them is "OEM unlocking," which lets you issue Fastboot commands to unlock your bootloader and install unofficial firmware (including rooting). There’s also "USB debugging," which enables ADB command support when activated. Additionally, you can turn on "Force 90 Hz" to keep your Pixel 4’s display running at a constant 90 fps. But these are just a few of what's available!
