Dead By Daylight: The Animatronic Best Builds And Play Guide
Jun 18, 2025 pm 10:09 PMAfter many years of continuously expanding the roster of killers, Dead By Daylight has now introduced a killer that fans have long awaited. The Animatronic, straight from Five Nights at Freddy's, enters the fog and joins forces with The Entity as the 40th killer in the game.
Once you obtain this killer through the DLC or the in-game store, you can utilize him in matches and experience his distinct power. Although not the strongest killer available, Springtrap can still lead you to victory consistently once you master his abilities and pair them with effective perks.
How Does The Animatronic's Power Function?
At first glance, the Animatronic’s ability may appear complex, but it is quite straightforward in gameplay. His power consists of two components: Fire Axe and Security Doors. If you’ve played The Huntress before, the Fire Axe will feel familiar, as it shares some similarities with her hatchets.
However, there are notable differences. While playing, you can hold the power button to aim the axe and press the attack button to throw it. The axe follows an arc trajectory—moving quickly forward for a short distance before dropping rapidly, unlike the hatchet which travels further.
Tips For Playing The Animatronic
While the Animatronic's mechanics may seem simple on paper, he is one of the most skill-intensive characters in the game. You don’t need to be an expert to use him effectively, but mastering his nuances definitely enhances the fun. Here are some tips to help you excel:
- You can destroy the cameras on top of security doors by throwing your axe at them. When Survivors attempt to expose you, you'll hear a glitch sound effect. Whenever this occurs, target the camera on the nearest door to prevent being revealed.
- The Undetectable status persists even after exiting the security doors. If a generator has two nearby doors, aim for the farther one so Survivors won't hear you approaching, giving you an opportunity to ambush them.
- Upon entering a door, you can press the cancel button to exit from the same location. If near a progressing generator, you can enter the nearby door to trick Survivors into thinking you've left, luring them into an easy hit.
- The arcing motion of Springtrap's axe allows for impressive shots on tight loops. When Survivors loop around you, throw the axe high to land a hit from above.
Recommended Add-Ons For The Animatronic
Add-On | Rarity | Effect |
---|---|---|
Bonnie's Guitar Strings | Rare | This is the most beneficial add-on for The Animatronic because it allows you to **identify the generator with the highest progress while inside a security door**, showing you where to go next. |
Celebrate! Poster | Very Rare | This add-on grants all players within 32 meters of a Survivor struck by your axe 12 percent Haste and 20 percent Vaulting speed. While both Survivors and you benefit, it favors you more significantly. |
Ripped Curtain | Uncommon | Survivors hit by your axe receive Hemorrhage and Mangled effects, causing significant slowing effects on them. |
Purple Guy Drawing | Rare | You can see the **Survivor's aura when they remove the axe** or perform rushed actions with the axe lodged in them. |
The Animatronic's Exclusive Perks
The Animatronic features three teachable perks that you can automatically unlock on other killers by reaching Prestige I with him. Higher rarities of these perks become available at Prestige II and III. Here’s what each does:
Help Wanted | When you break a generator, it gains the Compromised effect. Once completed, **you gain a 25 percent faster basic attack cooldown on successful hits**. This only affects the last generator you kicked. |
---|---|
Phantom Fear | Whenever this perk is active and a Survivor is within your terror radius, **they scream and reveal their aura for two seconds**. This perk has a 60-second cooldown after each activation. |
Haywire | If a Survivor stops working on an exit gate switch **after reaching 80 percent completion**, it regresses at 100 percent speed. |
Best Builds And Perk Combos For The Animatronic
Although DBD killers stand out due to their unique powers, they share a common pool of perks. You can select any four of these perks once unlocked to build a powerful setup for The Animatronic, and some combinations work especially well together:
All-Rounder Build
Perk Name | Description |
---|---|
Gearhead | Gearhead is among the best aura-revealing perks for The Animatronic. It activates **when Survivors lose health by any means**. While active, whenever a Survivor performs a successful skill check on a generator, their aura is visible for eight seconds. |
Pop Goes The Weasel | After hooking a Survivor, you can instantly teleport to the generator they were repairing and **kick it to cause massive regression** using this perk. |
Trail Of Torment | Kicking generators triggers the Undetectable effect for a long duration. You can either set up an ambush or hide behind a nearby door until the effect ends and then chase down Survivors working on the generator. |
Call Of Brine | Since this build involves frequent generator kicking, **Call of Brine increases the amount of regression** applied automatically. |
Aura Build
Perk Name | Description |
---|---|
Lethal Pursuer | This perk reveals Survivors’ auras for an extended time at the match start, helping you initiate a fast chase thanks to instant teleportation. It also extends aura visibility from other perks. |
I'm All Ears | Whenever a Survivor vaults over windows, pallets, or lockers, you can see their aura, making it easier to anticipate their movements near windows. |
Nowhere To Hide | If you suspect Survivors were previously working on a specific generator but are now hiding, **kicking that generator reveals their aura**. |
Tinkerer | Though not an aura-related perk, this helps protect your generators and provides additional uses for Nowhere To Hide. |
