As you enter the first settlement in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, you'll encounter multiple side quests offered by the locals. These can range from finding a pie to soothe someone's nostalgia to tracking down a bandit-captured husband. This particular quest takes you into a world cloaked in darkness and filled with vampiric cravings.

Accepting the Quest

Betrys is the one offering this quest. You’ll find her near the docks at the city’s edge, specifically in the poorer district, positioned in front of a small jail—a location that subtly hints at the nature of her request since someone currently resides inside.

You might already be seeking Betrys as part of the A Carnation to Remember questline, where your goal is to locate and give flowers to her from Keeper Dicun. Upon speaking with her, she’ll reveal that her husband, Col, has been imprisoned due to his deteriorated mental state. He, along with others in the village, has become little more than an empty shell. Their condition started after they all shared a strange dream while staying at a nearby camp. Your task is to investigate the campsite to uncover what caused their affliction.

Going Camping

The camp where the infected individuals were staying lies northeast of the city, behind a foreboding structure. Occasionally, a Corpse Eater will wander around the area, but even at the lowest level, it shouldn’t pose much of a threat.

Upon reaching the camp, simply sleep there. Avoid using your bonfire; instead, look for a sleeping bag located in the center of the camp and interact with it. Once you do, you’ll be transported into a new dimension.

From here, follow the cliffside path leading into a cave. Descend the slope until you reach the bottom, where you’ll meet Abhartach, a mysterious figure yearning for blood. He will beg you to let him bite you, giving you two choices:

• “Very well, bite me.”
• “No. You’ll die.”

If you allow him to bite you, warn him that your blood won’t satisfy him—it results in his immediate death. Refusing him causes him to fly into a rage and attack. Either way, Abhartach ends up dead, though the second choice requires some combat. His weakness makes the fight easy; each of his attacks drains his stamina, leaving him on his knees briefly. Afterward, exit through the rear of the cave to leave the dream realm.

Breaking the News

Return to Betrys using the teleportation device found southeast of the camp. She’ll be waiting in the small village atop the hill. She informs you that everyone who was affected by the dream has returned to normal.

Unfortunately, Col remains unchanged. You’ll have several options available, each requiring a check based on Strength, Spirituality, or Practicality—all leading to the same result: ending Col’s suffering. If you fail the check or decide to console Betrys instead, the quest concludes here. Should you succeed, you must go to Col’s home and kill him—preferably under the cover of night to avoid witnesses. Doing so grants extra XP, and Betrys will express her gratitude before departing the city.

• 9,000 XP 1,800 XP
• An additional 1,000 XP if you choose to end Col’s torment.
