The boss lineup in Elden Ring Nightreign has recently received a major enhancement. FromSoftware has introduced hard mode versions of every Nightlord encounter. Known as Everdark Sovereign expeditions, these challenges alter the Nightlord boss with fresh mechanics, new attack sequences, and notably more HP. Even the most experienced Nightfarer will find these expeditions demanding.
However, if you're ready to face the challenge and survive, you'll earn Sovereign Sigils—a new currency that can be traded for existing skins or new chalices to optimize your builds. In this guide, we’ll explain how Everdark Sovereign works in Nightreign, summarize what Sovereign Sigils are used for, and detail all the boss changes for the first Everdark Sovereign: the Gaping Jaw.
What Is Everdark Sovereign?
Everdark Sovereign is a variant of existing Nightlord expeditions, dramatically increasing the difficulty of the final boss. If you've played Monster Hunter, it's similar to tempered monsters from that series. The first two nights of an Everdark Sovereign expedition mirror their standard counterparts. However, the final boss undergoes significant modifications:
- The boss starts in their second phase.
- New phases are added when the boss reaches 50% HP.
- The Nightlord's HP is greatly increased.
- Boss aggression levels are raised.
Teamwork is essential here, as well as exploiting the boss' weaknesses. Aim to be at least Level 13 with Legendary gear before finishing the second night. Upgrade your flasks as much as possible, and carry spare Warming Stones to restore your team’s health. Flasks of Wonderous Physick that boost HP or reduce damage are also recommended.
Sovereign Sigils
Location of the Collector Signboard vendor. Upon defeating an Everdark Sovereign, your team earns Sovereign Sigils, a new type of currency available at the Collector Signboard vendor in Roundtable Hold—located near the coast. They become accessible after defeating your first Everdark Sovereign boss. Sovereign Sigils can be exchanged for character skins, new chalices, relics, or guaranteed shifting earth spawns on future expeditions.
Gaping Jaw Fight Changes
Nightlord | Adel, Baron of Night |
---|---|
Weaknesses | Poison, Scarlet Rot |
New Mechanics |
The first Everdark Sovereign added to Nightreign is the Gaping Jaw. This version includes many more AoE attacks, a cyclone mechanic, and Spiritsprings appearing near the arena edges. Defeating this boss demands optimized survivability affixes and relics. Any affixes boosting lightning resistance and general damage reduction will help significantly.
- Improved damage negation at full HP.
- Improved damage negation from consecutive hits.
- Improved lightning resistance.
Upon reaching Adel, you’ll immediately face its second phase form. The boss charges toward your team with explosive AoE attacks, repeated grabs, and slams. Our Gaping Jaw guide provides more details on Adel’s moveset if you need a refresher.
Additional Phases
Reducing Adel’s HP by half triggers its third phase, where it slams the ground and activates its usual AoE wipe mechanic. Unlike phase two, once the explosion occurs, Adel generates a cyclone that follows it. You must remain inside the cyclone to avoid continuous damage over time. Spiritsprings located around the arena allow you to launch yourself back into Adel’s cyclone if caught in the storm. These appear as blue rifts.
Lightning storms remain constant once the third phase begins. Keep moving.
Besides the cyclone mechanic, Adel becomes far more aggressive, featuring numerous leaping attacks. Approach this fight like Prime Consort Radahn from Shadow of the Erdtree. Survivability is key here, especially aggro management if playing with a premade team. Based on observations, Adel’s fourth phase continues similarly, with an even smaller cyclone and additional AoE attacks. Stay close to the boss, never leave the cyclone, and focus on reducing the Nightlord’s HP quickly.
Since your team must stay together during the second half of the fight, consider using Relics that share flask heals and consumable items. Sharing Wondrous Physick flasks and Poison Grease can make this battle much easier.
