Get Network Utility for MacOS Sequoia with Neo Network Utility
Jul 04, 2025 am 09:11 AMRecall Network Utility, the useful Mac tool that was included with the operating system from the earliest days of Mac OS X? It provided a simple graphical interface to frequently used network commands like ping, netstat, nslookup, traceroute, finger, port scanning, and whois. However, for reasons unclear, Apple discontinued Network Utility starting with macOS Catalina. While it's possible to run the old app on newer macOS versions using a workaround, if you don't have access to a pre-Catalina Mac to copy the original Network Utility.app, that method won’t be helpful.
This is where Neo Network Utility steps in — a free replacement developed by Devon Technology for modern macOS versions. Neo Network Utility offers all the features found in the original Network Utility, along with an added bonus: a built-in connection speed test tool.

Getting Neo Network Utility installed is straightforward — simply drag and drop the app (named "Network Utility" for ease of use) into your Applications folder. (Quick note: if you previously followed our guide to run the older Network Utility on modern macOS systems, you should be aware that both apps share the same name.)
When you open Neo Network Utility, you’ll feel right at home — the interface is nearly identical to the original Network Utility, which makes the transition seamless.
Neo Network Utility supports everything the original could do — check your Wi-Fi speed, perform port scans, ping, traceroute, whois lookups, netstat, nslookup, and more. In addition, it includes a convenient speed test function for checking download and upload speeds, a feature not present in Apple’s original app.
While Neo Network Utility works on macOS versions newer than Ventura (including Sonoma and Sequoia), we’re focusing on macOS Sequoia here since it's the most recent release. Chances are it will work well with future macOS versions too.
Of course, many of these tools are available via the command line, either built into macOS or installable through Homebrew, but having them all accessible from one central application makes managing network tasks much easier.
