Sandygast 100% perfect IV stats, shiny Palossand in Pokémon GO
Jun 09, 2025 am 10:07 AMThis week’s Feature Hour is all about the Sand Heap Pokémon, making it the ideal time to encounter a Sandygast in Pokémon Go!
Sandygast’s evolution, Palossand, is an intriguing Pokémon – largely due to its Ghost type, which gives it a rather eerie backstory... In Pokémon Go, it serves more as a decent option for Ultra League and a Pokédex filler.
If you’re already well-stocked with spooky sand-themed Pokémon, the main attraction of this week’s Feature Hour is clearing out your Pokémon storage. This is the perfect chance to get rid of any unwanted Pokémon and take advantage of the double transfer candy bonus reward that accompanies the event! Considering the ongoing joke that Pokémon Candy is Soylent Green and the fact that Palossand feeds on the Pokémon it traps beneath its sand, this is oddly fitting.

Sandygast’s 100% perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go
This week’s Feature Hour offers a great opportunity to catch a Sandygast with perfect IV stats.
‘Perfect’ refers to two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you intend to use a particular Pokémon. First, there’s the maxed-out, 100% IV version, which is the 15/15/15 you’re aiming for your 4* Pokédex, raids, and Master League. However, because of how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect IV Pokémon is typically only the best version of itself in the Master League.
Of course, you can’t see the IV of a Pokémon without catching it first, but with some research ahead of time, you can easily identify a perfect Meditite based on the CP alone.
If you’re at Level 30 (or higher), you’ll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Meditite:
- Level 30 (wild CP maximum) - 1057 CP
- Level 35 (weather boosted CP maximum) - 1145 CP
The wild CP value aligns with your current trainer level until you reach Level 30, so, since most players are above this level, we’ve kept to these values for simplicity’s sake. If, however, you’re currently below Level 30, these values will differ.
Is Palossand good in PVP?
Have you ever destroyed a sandcastle? If so, you know the answer to that question...
It’s a bit disappointing that it’s so weak, given its official Pokédex description:
Palossand - ‘The terrifying Palossand drags smaller Pokémon into its sandy body. Once its victims are trapped, it drains them of their vitality whenever it pleases. From the hollows in its arms, it fires the bones of its victims, which are all dried up after being drained of their vitality.’
How can something so dark and so cool be so lackluster? Such a wasted opportunity...
On a more practical detailed level, Palossand is subpar in Great League and acceptable in Ultra League.
As a Ghost and Ground-type Pokémon, Sandygast is weak to Dark, Ghost, Grass, Ice, and Water-type attacks. This doesn’t bode well in most metas... That said, its best moveset is Astonish, Scorching Sands, and Shadow Ball, which is solid. It’s versatile, defensive, and can apply Fast move pressure. The issue with this Pokémon is that while Scorching Sands can lower the opponent’s attack, Palossand’s attack and defense stats are backward compared to what you’d expect in PVP.
In Great League, this results in wins against Shadow Annihilape, Claydol, Clodsire, Annihilape, and Full Belly Morpeko. Losses will come (swiftly) from Shadow Drapion, Cradily, Lapras, Malamar, and Azumarill.
For Great League, this leads to wins against Cobalion, Cresselia, Annihilape, Tentacruel, and Clefable. Losses will come from Feraligatr, Virizion, Grumpig, Skeledirge, and Giratina Altered.
Since you can get a perfect Lv49 Medicham into Ultra League, Master League is out of the question.
Is there a shiny Sandygast in Pokémon Go?
Yes! Shiny Sandygast and shiny Palossand were introduced in December 2024 as part of the annual holiday event.
If fortune favours you, you might spot a shiny Sandygast in the wild, but keep in mind that this isn’t a Community Day, so shiny rates aren’t boosted. Therefore, the chances of catching one, let alone a perfect one, are quite slim. That said, every Sandygast you encounter has the potential to be shiny, so it’s purely a numbers game – tap each and every one of them and see what you get!
The Might and Mastery Season and its seasonal quest has arrived. Crown Clash is currently active, introducing Kingambit and the Crown Clash: Taken Over quest. You can now catch Dynamax Pokémon through Max Battles. First, though, you need to visit Power Spots to gather Max Particles and complete the To the Max! quest. Don’t forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange, and Party Play while you’re hunting down rare Pokémon, competing in the Go Battle League, or participating in PokéStop Showcases.
What do shiny Sandygast and shiny Palossand look like in Pokémon Go?
As you can see below, this is a pretty cool shiny – shiny Sandygast swaps its obvious body colour for volcanic black sand. It also changes its spade from red to yellow. This is a highly effective shiny and looks quite impressive. We’re big fans of this one.

Other tips for this Feature Hour
Feature Hour always comes with a bonus for you to take advantage of, and this week it’s double transfer candy. As always, this applies throughout the hour and affects more than just the Pokémon in the spotlight.
- This is an essential bonus to maximize, especially for lower-level trainers trying to fill out their Pokédex. The smartest way to do this is to create a Tag in your Pokémon storage specifically for this purpose.
- We suggest making one called ‘Transfer’, where you can store Pokémon you don’t want or need. Instead of transferring them as you catch them, hold them back for events like these, when you can bulk transfer them. All that Candy adds up quickly, and is particularly useful when transferring something like a Mewtwo for double candy, or after a massive event like Hoenn Tour!
- It’s also worth noting that, thanks to Sandygast being a Ghost/Ground-type, catching a bunch during this Feature Hour will contribute to your respective catch bonus medal progress.
Feature Hour events only last for an hour – 6pm to 7pm (local time). Check back the following week for a guide on Poochyena and its Double Evolution XP bonus.
Good luck catching a perfect Sandygast!
