Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 4 has diligently brought our favorite stages from both titles to the modern era. And with those stages, the myriad of hidden areas hidden within have also made a triumphant return. The Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games have never been light on bonuses, so there is quite a bit to uncover.
Of course, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 originally had a very different style of gameplay, which led to it focusing a little less on hidden areas in stages. This does mean that the majority of these unlockable sections are found in the THPS3 stages. However, THPS4 still has a few secret sections to uncover here and there. We'll give you the low-down on every hidden area and tell you exactly what you need to do in order to reach them.
Foundry - The Reactor Room
To unlock the reactor room, you simply have to complete the Un-Jam 5 Valves. Each valve is located along the walls of the stage, grind them to unjam them. From here on out, you can skate through the door which is located directly behind the location where you start the stage. This is a bowl that has multiple floors with a rail that runs alongside it.
Canada - The Raised Halfpipe And Railroad RailThis part of the Canada stage is located on the pier. You can follow the SKATE letters all the way down here. Hit the switch on your left, and you will raise the halfpipe. Use the quarter pipe to fling yourself up to it, then you can take that halfpipe up to the bridge up above. The bridge acts as a halfpipe itself (with quite a bit more room to work with), and also ends with two rails.
These two rails are part of a set of train tracks that eventually diverge. If you grind the left rail, that will take you on a path that will allow you to grind the power lines towering above this stage. If you grind the right rail, you will be dropped onto the boardwalk that leads to The Horn grind.
Rio - The Hidden Bowl
This is an easy one. From the starting point, take a left. Keep going until you are riding alongside the buildings. You should find a plywood wall. Burst through it and the bowl will be waiting for you. If you prefer skating bowls, then this is your ticket to a high score!
Suburbia - Backyard Skate Park
This secret area is unlocked by completing the "Help The Thin Man" goal. From the start of the stage, head to your right. Collect the axe buried in a piece of lumber. Now, head to the spooky house that is next to all the halfpipes. You'll find a man in a suit standing next to it. If you have the axe on hand, he will use it to bust down the wooden wall, giving you access to the backyard. Head through the house, then, once you hit the ramp at the end of it, transfer over the wall on your right. You will now be in the backyard, which is basically one giant bowl for you to skate.
Additionally, if you ollie through the crack in the front door of the same spooky house, you will be transported high up above the ramp you start the stage on. You can perform tricks as you descend, and you will gather quite a bit of momentum in the process, so there is potential for combo routes here.
Airport - The Helipad
This one is pretty simple. At the beginning of the stage, hop over the counter on your right, and grind into the baggage check conveyor belt. This will take you to the helipad, where you can grind the helicopter's blades.
Skater Island - Bikini Bottom
If you head to your left once you start this stage, you'll find a massive hole in the wall. Skate through this, and you will reach a pirate ship. Once here, head to the bow of the ship, and skate off the nose of the ship, aiming for the life-saver floating in the water. If you hit it, you will be transported to Sponge Bob Square Pants's Bikini Bottom. There isn't a whole lot to skate here. There are just a few ramps: it is more about the vibes than anything else.
Los Angeles - The Collapsed Overpass And Underground Halfpipe
In order to reach this area, you will need to complete the Start The Earthquake goal. Which requires you to grind four rails - all painted red. You'll be facing the first rail at the beginning of the stage; It runs through the building. The next will be on your right after landing in the street. After skating that one, take another right, and you'll find the next red rail. Finally, head up the stairs, and grind the final red rail, which runs alongside the left side of the building. This will cause an earthquake, and cause the overpass to collapse.
Grind the cable leading to the roof of the library, and you will be able to hop up to the collapsed highway section. From here, you can ride it down to get to a half pipe, or, you can launch yourself off the ramp to grind along the rooftop.
Tokyo - The Hidden Skate ParkThe hidden area in Tokyo is massive. To unlock it, you will need grind along the tops of the signs on the left side of the map. This is easier said than done. The best way to do it is to start by filling your special bar (so that you can get more air), and ride up the wall of the ramp that is left of the ramp you start this stage on. Once you have enough height, grind the cable holding the lanterns.
From here, just follow the path forward, grinding as you do. You will grind past that massive sign of the skater, sever the cables holding it up, and cause a giant hole to open up in the wall down below. Just skate through that hole to reach a whole other skate park.
Cruise Ship - The Safety Net Grinds And The Pool Bowl
Unlocking the safety nets requires you to complete the three stunt challenges. That means unlocking this hidden area will require three steps...
- You need to grind the rails holding the planters on the right side of the ship (from where you start this stage).
- You need to manual across the deck near the massive lifeboat (there is graffiti clearing marking where you need to start your manual).
- You will need to grind up to the halfpipe above the pool and perform a lip trick on the helicopter.
Once you've performed these three stunts, you can head into the room with the massive coin, hit the coin, causing it to crash through the wall, and launch a man off the deck of the ship. And just like that, you will have rails to grind all around the ship. You only had to kill a man to get access to them!
How To Drain The Pool
While this one is a touch less exciting, it is extremely useful. There is a valve near the fin, beside one of the giant chess sets. Grind the pipe the valve is attached to, popping the valve off. This will drain the pool and give you an excellent bowl.
Alcatraz - Unlock The Halfpipes Inside The Prison
To unlock this area you will need to complete the Free The Prisoner goal. This means you need to find the five garbage bins and bump into them. The first bin is right across from the prison (1/5), the next is beside it (2/5), next to the safety rail. Grind down that rail into the courtyard, and there is another bin near the massive horn (3/5). Stick to the path wrapping around this area, and you will find another bin resting on the ledge just as you exit the grassy section and hit concrete (4/5). Keep following the path forward, and you will find the final bin next to the pamphlets and map of Alacatraz (5/5).
Once you have collided with all five bins, head to the prison entrance again. Unlock the door with the unicorn graffiti above it. You will free the spirit and have access to the halfpipes inside the prison.
Zoo - The Boarded-Up Atrium
To access the abandoned atrium, take a right at the beginning of the stage and smash through the barricades. Then, look for a plywood wall, and smash through that as well. You will now be in the atrium. You can launch yourself up a ramp in here to get to the roof and grind to your heart's content.
